
About Kayla...
Kayla Kovacs is a young lyric soprano whose vibrant voice and dedication to her craft have positioned her as a compelling young artist in her community. Currently based in Boston, Massachusetts, Kayla completed her Master’s degree and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Opera Performance at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and studies under Dr. Rebecca Folsom. Her time at the Boston Conservatory has been marked by notable achievements and captivating performances.
Most notably, Kayla has performed the roles of Alma Winemiller in Summer & Smoke by Lee Hoiby, Helena in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and La Contessa in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. She has also studied and performed partial roles such as Ellen from Peter Grimes, Arabella from Strauss's Arabella, and Magda from The Consul in the Boston Conservatory opera scenes program. Kayla has also performed in two different world premieres during her career—she premiered the role of Clytie in Haunted Palace by local Boston composer, Sophie Carpenter, as well as the role of Jo in Tom Cipullo's Mayo, directed by Dean Anthony. In the upcoming spring season of 2025, Kayla takes on the role of Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte, under the direction of David Gately and conducted by Andrew Bisantz. In the summer of 2025, Kayla will be performing the title role in Handel’s Alcina with MassOpera.
Kayla has a specialty in performing Mozartian repertoire, showcasing her affinity for the intricacies and nuances of his compositions. Her interpretation of Mozart's works reflects a deep understanding and appreciation for the composer's compositional and dramatic prowess, while breathing young and new life into his works. In addition, Kayla expresses a deep interest in contemporary opera, eagerly embracing innovative works that push the boundaries of the genre.
Beyond her performances on stage, Kayla's commitment to her craft extends to her role as a teacher, where she imparts her knowledge and passion for singing to aspiring vocalists through private voice lessons. Additionally, she currently lends her expertise to the Boston Conservatory Marketing team as a marketing assistant, combining her love for music with her acumen for strategic promotion and technological skill.
Kayla's impact transcends the realm of performance and extends into advocacy for accessibility. As a neurodivergent individual, she is deeply committed to making classical music and opera more accessible for people within the neurodivergent community, both as audiences and performers. Through her advocacy efforts, Kayla aims to dismantle barriers and foster inclusivity within the classical music world, ensuring that all individuals have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of opera.
